Seri tersebut awalnya diberi judul Aqua (ditulis sebagai AQUA) saat karya tersebut diterbitkan dalam majalah Enix Monthly Stencil dari 2001 sampai 2002, dan berganti judul ketika karya tersebut dialihkan ke majalah Mag Garden Comic Blade, dimana karya tersebut diserialisasikan dari November 2002 sampai April 2008. Aqua terdiri dari dua volume tankōbon, dan Aria terdiri dari dua belas volume. Melayang dengan damai ke Neo Venezia, sebuah kota di planet Aqua (sebelumnya dikenal sebagai Mars). Pada abad ke-24, manusia telah menemukan cara untuk menjajah planet yang sebelumnya tidak dapat dihuni. Meski terdengar futuristik, Neo Venezia masih dipenuhi dengan keindahan pedesaan; gondola di kanal lebar dan saluran air adalah moda transportasi utama. Kota itu sendiri adalah replikasi setia dari Manhome (planet yang sebelumnya dikenal sebagai Bumi) Venesia. Untuk memastikan bahwa penduduk dan turis sama-sama mendapatkan hasil maksimal dari banyak keajaiban Neo Venezia, perusahaan yang menawarkan tur berpemandu melalui gondola dibentuk, salah satunya bernama Perusahaan Aria.
