Siswa sekolah menengah biasa Taichi Nishimura dan teman masa kecilnya, Rin Azuma, sedang dalam perjalanan ke sekolah pada suatu pagi biasa. Tiba-tiba, cahaya bersinar menyelimuti mereka, membawa mereka ke dunia fantasi yang penuh dengan makhluk ajaib. Saat mereka tiba, Taichi dan Rin diancam oleh seekor binatang buas. Mereka segera diselamatkan oleh sekelompok petualang, yang menasihati pasangan tersebut bahwa bepergian tanpa senjata dan tidak berpengalaman membuat mereka rentan terhadap serangan monster yang meningkat baru-baru ini. Taichi dan Rin diarahkan ke Persekutuan, di mana mereka dapat menentukan bakat magis mereka dan mendaftar sebagai petualang.
