Tahun 202X. Mobil listrik self-driving telah menggantikan mobil berbasis mesin pembakaran internal dan sudah banyak ditemukan di Jepang. Namun, sirkuit balap yang dikenal sebagai MFG, yang menggunakan mobil pembakaran internal tradisional, mendapatkan popularitas di seluruh dunia. Kanata Livington, seorang pembalap Jepang-Inggris berusia 19 tahun, datang ke Jepang setelah lulus dari balap papan atas sekolah di Inggris untuk mengikuti MFG dan menemukan ayahnya yang hilang, Ken Katagiri. Kanata pindah ke rumah teman mendiang ibunya—Tn. dan Nyonya Saionji—dan mengikuti perlombaan dengan nama keluarga ayahnya, meminjam Toyota 86 dari Ogata, teman keluarga pasangan tersebut. Meskipun memiliki kelemahan besar dalam hal spesifikasi, Kanata berhasil mencapai 15 besar saat membalap supercar papan atas, menunjukkan keahliannya yang fenomenal. Takumi Fujiwara, pembalap downhill dan reli legendaris, ternyata adalah pelatih Kanata. Karyawan MFG yang akrab dengan Fujiwara dan mantan pembalap satu generasi mulai memperhatikan Kanata. Angin puyuh baru akan terjadi di MFG.
